I love easy decorating tips. It’s the perfect way to spice up your home without dipping into your wallet too much. So, I always hunt around – blogs, friends’ homes, magazines – and that’s where I get most of my ideas.
The term decorating can be a scary word for some people. But, think of it as just adding some personal touches to your home, and it isn’t quite so scary. Take time before you start decorating to think about what you want.
Do you want your rustic tables to be modern, western, simple, ornate… the options are endless! Here is the coolest idea I have seen in a while. In Atlanta Georgia, there is a group of chefs and winos known as the FourCoursemen. Talk about creative and innovative. Go to their website and learn all about them. They don’t cook the same thing twice and they eat local. They also have quite a few cool ideas for décor on their blog!
They were featured in Food & Wine with what I think is one of the most creative table runners I have ever seen, and it’s something I am considering doing for my family Thanksgiving. It’s simple and cheap.
The table runner for your rustic table setting will be made of… PAPER! How fun is that? You’re sure to have all of your guests talking. Buy a sheet of paper long enough to span the length of your table. You can cut it to the exact width you want for the runner. Now, here’s the fun part: grab some brown Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bombay India ink (only $3 at dickblick.com) and get creative. You are the artist for this runner. My sister is the artist in our family, so I plan on getting her help when I make my runner. (see the final product here!)
See how simple this style tip is? It isn’t expensive and it can turn your tablescape into the talk of the party. I appreciate the FourCoursemen’s design and chef know-how… now, if I could just make this recipe of theirs: Spiced Banana Chocolate Ice Cream Bar w/ Coffee Dust, Oatmeal Cookie Fingers, Fruit Coulis! Rustic tables, homemade runners, great food – sounds like a fabulous party to me!
