Can you believe the holidays are right around the corner! I am shocked that the holidays are coming up so fast, but I must say – I can’t wait! What an amazing time of the year it is. The cooler, darker mornings and the breezy evenings – you just can’t help but be outside.

Well, around this time each year people begin making holiday plans. The big question, where will Thanksgiving be held this year? In my family this has not ever really been an issue. Its tradition that we go the same house every year, same day, same time, same food. Ok, so we like our Thanksgiving routine. I will admit it.

Well, now that all of us are growing up and starting families of our own, it is time to begin rethinking where Thanksgiving will be. Maybe it’s time for a new host this year?

So, maybe this year you have taken on Thanksgiving at your home. You are in charge of the meal, the décor, the extra seating well let’s face it you are in charge of a lot. Since Thanksgiving is around the corner I thought I would go over one of the most common questions I receive on dining chairs.

As you prepare for your family and friends coming over, you will need to think about extra seating. So, for the next few blogs I wanted to go over some different chairs we offer and why they would be the perfect option for your family gathering.

A few posts back, I promised that I would write about my oh-so-famous chocolate chip banana bread. It is by far my favorite thing in the world to bake, and I claim it as one of my specialties. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it’s my husband’s favorite treat of all time.

We are in the middle of the best season of the year for chocolate chip banana bread: the fall. There is nothing better than waking up, putting on my robe and slippers and getting the bread in the oven before my husband has even stirred.

Also, I think chocolate chip banana bread is a perfect match for the work I do with Rustic Furniture Pro – a rustic furniture business. There is something awesomely rustic about this bread. There are chunks of banana and chocolate and the smell just reminds me of simpler times.

I always eat my banana bread warm, fresh out of the oven warm. The smell wakes up my husband and we get our mugs of coffee, our snuggies and head outdoors. Sitting in rustic chairs just completes the scene. Banana bread, rustic chairs, warm blankets, my wonderful hubby – now that’s the good life!

So without further ado… the recipe!

What you’ll need:

• 1 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 2 eggs
• 2 cups flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 3 soft, slightly browned bananas, mashed

How to bake it:

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs, flour, soda, and bananas. Pour banana bread batter into 1 greased and floured loaf pan; bake at 325° for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

**Add nuts if you wish!

Want to know my favorite part about fall? Sitting on my back porch, drinking a warm glass of chai tea all while enjoying some good ole’ fashioned quality time with my husband. This past weekend, we spent a lot of time outside, enjoying the fresh, cool air. In my opinion, enjoying your front or back porch is really not worth it if you don’t have comfortable and beautiful seating.

Outdoor seating, especially in the fall season, is an important investment for your home. Having somewhere to sit and enjoy a cup of Chai Tea is just as important as having a bed to sleep in! If you don’t believe me, you probably haven’t spent many mornings and afternoons enjoying the outdoors. For me, incorporating rustic chairs in my outdoor areas makes my home flow seamlessly with nature.

Here is my top advice, always have seating for at least four. Choose rustic chairs that are comfortable and welcoming. You can also mix and match – don’t be afraid of eclecticism in your outdoor designs. And of course, if you drinking tea, coffee or a glass of wine, you definitely want a table for functionality.

Here are my top picks for fall’s outdoor seating.  First, like I said, I love eclecticism. For me, the Jacob’s Ladder Chair is the perfect addition to your porch. It adds height and brings your gaze toward the skies or tops of trees – a great place to look!

Recipe for my famous Chai Tea for Two:

1. Boil water (enough to fill two of your favorite fall mugs)
2. Pour hot water into mugs
3. Use the Celestial Seasonings Honey Vanilla Chai Tea
4. Let steep (sit there) for 8 minutes
5. Pour in 2-3 tablespoons of milk
6. Pour in one tablespoon of real, local honey. (Eating local honey prevents allergies wherever you live!)

My top treats to accompany Chai Tea for Two:

1. Gingersnaps
2. Fine Dark Chocolate
3. Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (I will post my famous recipe for this in a later blog!)

Rustic Chairs: Generations of Seating

Remember when you were a little kid? Remember how big the world seemed? You could easily crawl under your grandparents’ coffee table or slouch down in a chair at dinner when didn’t want to eat your broccoli. Now, picture that coffee table or that chair, where is it? Chances are, those pieces of furniture are long gone.

Someone broke the coffee table from getting too excited while watching a football game. That chair had one too many people slouch in it, and the back broke. I don’t know about you, but those pieces were a part of my childhood, and I can never get them back.

My grandmother recently gave me my favorite piece of furniture from her home – a small white chair that had a fold out leg rest built in. Her mother brought it over from Ireland in the early 1900s, talk about some history! I am thrilled to have it in my home, and every time I look at it, I can see myself sitting at her table as a young girl eating her famous vegetable soup and tapioca.

Sadly, furniture isn’t made in a durable fashion anymore. After a few years of wear and tear, a chair is placed in the trash, forgotten. Furniture doesn’t last for generations anymore, it lasts for a time and then is forgotten. What does this mean? It means that the majority of children today won’t have a keepsake chair like I do.
